Butterfly Nebula (NGC 6302)

NGC 6302 also known as Bug Nebula, Butterfly Nebula or Caldwell 69 is a bipolar planetary nebula in the constellation Scorpius. The dense disc is postulated to have caused the star's outflow to form a bipolar structure similar to Hourglass. The Nebula contains a prominent northwest love which extends upto 3.0' away from the central star and is estimated to have formed from an eruptive event around 1,900 years ago.

FACTS ABOUT BUTTERFLY NEBULA:-

1. It is one of the hottest star known with the surface temperature 230,000 degree Celsius.

2. The star have current mass of 0.64 solar mass.

3. It is surrounded by dense equatorial disc composed of gas and dust.

4. A dark lane runs through the waist of the Nebula obscuring the central star at all wavelength.

5. The original mass of the star was much higher than it is now.

6. It has hot central star.
