Facts and Information about the Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy

 The Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA- IASB) is a Belgian federal Scientific research institute. BIRA-IASB studies the Earth's stratosphere by looking at ozone depletion and related key parameters like volcano aerosol, polar stratospheric clouds and halogenated compounds.

BIRA-IASB has extensive expertise in :

1. The dynamic behavior of the outer magnetospheric boundary in response to the variable solar wind, which controls the energy input from the solar wind into the magnetosphere.

2. The interaction between the outer magnetosphere and the corotating plasma in the inner magnetosphere.

3. The coupling between the magnetosphere and the ionosphere as manifested by the Aurora or polar lights.

Facts about the Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy :-

1. The Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy was created in 1964.

2. It's main task are research and public service in space aeronomy.

3. In 2014, BIRA-IASB celebrated it's 50th anniversary and gains it's royal statute.

4. BIRA-IASB mostly works with data acquired via rockets and artificial satellite for research to the physical and chemical structure of the higher atmosphere and extraterrestrial space.

5. BIRA-IASB provides products and services that fulfill needs of the user community;

. Solar UV index for the public

. Assessment of the state of the atmosphere to support policy makers

. Accumulated ionising radiation dose prediction for the space industry
