What is a space station?

Space station is a crewed satellites desinged to remain in low Earth orbit for long time. The space station are used to study the effect of long term space flight on human body it also serve as a platform for extended scientific studies.

Why India need space station?

1. ISRO turn over- by commercializing low Earth orbit.

2. Water purification technology- water can purified through microgravity.

3. High quality protein crystals - human body contains more than 10000 protein more is present in nature. Their crystals leads to drug.

4. Developing vaccines- India is one of the biggest developer of medicine in world.

5. Behavior of fluids - leads to medical device development.

Will ISRO work at ISS?

ISRO has been invited by ISS to work together but because of budget constraints ISRO withdraw itself from the mission. NASA itself wants to shut ISS as it cost more for maintenance.

When will ISRO launch it's space station?

ISRO will launch it's space station after a space of 5-7 years after 2022 gaganyaan mission. It is envisaged to weigh around 20 tonnes and the vyomanauts could spend around 15-20 days on the space station.
