The solar system is gravitationally bound system of the sun and the other objects that orbit it, either directly or indirectly. The solar system is located in the Orion Arm, 26,000 light years away from the center of the milky way galaxy. This solar system was formed 4.6 billion years ago and is still exists, this happened because gravity pulled clouds of dust and gas together to form our solar system .

The solar system is consist of many things, it has a huge star called sounds in the centre around which 8 main planets revolves. It occupies most of the mass of the solar system. Except sun the nearest star to this solar system is Proxima centauri 4.35 light years.

There are many solar system in our universe but this solar system have 8 planets and 5 dwarf planets out of which 3 are universally accepted which are Ceres, Pluto and Eris and the other 2 are expected to be there which are Haumea and Make make. There is a divider between Mars and Jupiter which divides inner four planets and outer four planets and is called as asteroid belt. The inner planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. While the outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Jupiter is the largest and biggest planet while Mercury is the smallest planet.

FACTS ABOUT THE SOLAR SYSTEM:

  • numerous smaller objects such as comets and asteroids.
  • 194 moons, 3,583 comets and 796,289 asteroids have been found in the solar system.
  • 99.86% of the solar system’s mass is found in the Sun. The majority of the remaining 0.14% is contained within the eight planets.
  • The combined mass of all the moons in the solar system is less than 0.1% of the Earth’s mass.
  • The four smaller inner planets, also known as the “terrestrial planets”, are primarily composed of rock and metal.
  • The four outer planets, also known as the “gas giants”,  are substantially larger and more massive than the inner planets.
  • The two innermost gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn, are the largest of the four outer planets and are composed mainly of hydrogen and helium.
  • The two outermost gas giants, Uranus and Neptune, are composed largely of ices (water, ammonia and methane).  Together they are referred to as the “ice giants“.
