Next sun for the humans

Proxima centauri is a small low-mass star located at 4.244 light years away from the sun In the southern constellation of centaurs. It's quiescent magnitude is 11.13. It is red dwarf star with a mass about an eight times of the sun's mass and average density about 33 times that of the sun. It is present in alpha centauria star system.

The star's magnetic field is created by convection throughout the steller body, and the resulting flare activity generates a total X-RAY emission similar to that produced by the sun.

If we start travelling away from the sun at a rate of 17.3km per second and if Voyager were to travel to Proxima centauri at this rate, it would take over 73,000 years to arrive at that position or at Proxima centauri. It is one of the closest star to the sun.

Facts about the Proxima centauri:

1. It is discovered by Robert Innes in 1915.

2. It is too faint to be seen with naked eyes.

3. It undergoes random dramatic increase in the brightness because of magnetic activity.

4. It's life is for another four trillion years.
