ISRO and JAXA to collaborate with each other for lunar exploration mission 2023

India's ISRO and Japan's JAXA will together attempt to put a lander and a Rover on the Moon's surface for the first time in 2023. As per the plan JAXA is expected to built the overall landing module and rover, while ISRO will be building the lander system and the mission will be launched from Japan on JAXA's H3 rocket.

The collaborating idea between India and Japan was made public in 2017in Bengaluru. Early this year a pre-project team was established to develop a comprehensive management plan for the mission and to investigate the space craft system requirements and other relevant matters.

It should be noted that ISRO as of now is engaged in preparation for the nation's maiden human spacecraft program Gaganyaan which is aimed to launch in 2022 when India will complete it's 75 years of Independence. But due to current pandemic this seems to be not possible as of now may be ISRO planning to postponed the launch of the Gaganyaan in 2023.
