THE STAR WHICH OCCUPIES MOST SPACE IN SOLAR SYSTEM

The sun is the star at the center of the solar system it is shining, yellow and the star which occupies most space in the solar system. It is nearly a perfect sphere of the hot plasma. It is a G type main sequence star(G2V) based on it's spectral class. It is approximately 4.6 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of matter within a region of a large molecular cloud.

The sun currently fuses about 600 million tons of hydrogen into helium every second, converting 4 millons ton of matter into energy every second.

The sun is composed of helium and hydrogen. At this time sun's life accounts for 74.9% and 23.8% of the body mass of the sun in the photosheres, other element's account for less than 2% of the mass with oxygen roughly 1.1% of the sun's mass , carbon 0.3% neon 0.2% and iron 0.2% being the most abundant.

The Sun has eight known planets. This includes four terrestrial planets (MercuryVenusEarth, and Mars), two gas giants (Jupiter and Saturn), and two ice giants (Uranus and Neptune). The Solar System also has at least five dwarf planets, an asteroid belt, numerous comets, and a large number of icy bodies which lie beyond the orbit of Neptune.

Facts about the Sun

  • The Sun is all the colours mixed together, this appears white to our eyes.
  • The Sun is composed of hydrogen (70%) and Helium (28%).
  • The Sun is a main-sequence G2V star (or Yellow Dwarf).
  • The Sun is 109 times wider than the Earth and 330,000 times as massive.
  • The Sun’s surface area is 11,990 times that of the Earth’s.
